WorkWell is a joint initiative from the Department of Work and Pensions and the Department of Health and Social Care with the vision of a healthier and more productive nation.

WorkWell aims to provide a free, one-to-one work support service, helping people with health issues and/or disabilities to get back to or remain in work by supporting them, or connecting them to relevant local support providers.

From April to November 2026, all Integrated Care Boards (ICB) will move to the new standard WorkWell model.

As Frimley ICB transitions to the Thames Valley ICB WorkWell will continue to operate in East Berkshire and you can still complete the referral form.

From April 2026, The ICB is working closely on the transition of WorkWell to the new ICB areas:

  • Surrey Heath and FarnhamSurrey & Sussex ICB

  • North East HampshireHampshire and Isle of Wight ICB

  • East BerkshireThames Valley ICB

If you’re not sure which area applies to you, simply complete the referral form and the team will confirm the correct pathway.

If you would like to refer, please complete the referral form.

Sometimes people need a little help to get back on track, and with one-to-one support from a WorkWell coach, this increases your chances of returning to work sooner or prevents you from taking sick leave.

People who are absent from work due to a health condition, such as mental health, musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, or respiratory conditions often struggle to return to work after a period of sickness leave.

WorkWell is a joint initiative from the Department of Work and Pensions and the Department of Health and Social Care with the vision of a healthier workforce and a more productive nation.

Eligibility criteria for the WorkWell programme is anyone aged 16 and over and has the right to work in the UK:

  • who lives in or is registered with a GP within the eligible areas (Slough Windsor and Maidenhead and Bracknell and Ascot ).

  • who is currently worried about how their health is impacting their ability to start, return to, or stay in work.

  • who is in work, needs support returning to work, or is out of work for up to six months, or is facing health-related barriers.

A WorkWell coach is there to help people improve their health and thrive in employment.

However, we also link individuals who have been out of work longer and need more complex support to return to work with services that can provide longer-term support.
